Brokenness is a Good Starting Place (for those who want to see God work powerfully)
"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise." Psalm 51:17
The agony of knowing my sin, breaks my spirit.
The horror of feeling separated from God, breaks my heart.
The gospel of sin being forgiven in Jesus, breaks my independence, and causes me to sacrifice to God all that I have left: my broken spirit and contrite heart.
And in that moment of standing naked and ashamed before the One who formed me in my innermost parts, I am finally ready to be clay in the Potter's hands. I am finally ready to experience what repentance is really supposed to be: a new direction, a beginning again.
Lord, in this experience of true brokenness, may you set me on the right path, towards the right destination, fueled by the right vision, and protected by the Righteous One, who gave his life that broken ones could be put right.
